After buying my house...

The Empty House

Return to an empty house,
Bags weigh heavy in my hands,
Echos of your long-gone feet,
Resound through these rooms,
One cupboard is half-empty,
Another is half-full,
Because I've thrown away the things,
Reminding me of you.

Incense is burning, the candlelight glows,
Mozart is playing, and nobody knows,
Don't need the lights on, the street light shows,
Through the cracks in the curtains -
   and nobody knows.

Standing on my doorstep,
Hands on hips, a threatening pose,
A frosty reception, an icy stare,
Don't know what you're doing here.
Nothing to tell you,
nothing to say,
You don't believe me - well that's a shame,
Nothing between us, anymore,
Except, perhaps,
A locked door.

Insence is burning...

You're always right, and I'm always wrong,
It's over and over
like an endless song,
I'm ok - on my own, in a place that's peaceful,
   a house that's home.
You had your chance, and you played the game wrong,
If you've got your regrets, then it's not my problem,
I'm ok - by my self,In a house that peaceful,

  -
a place that's home.

After a moonlit flit through York, barefoot...as we do...

Walking Down The Road
Walking down the road in the wrong direction,
Five hundred miles from home, in a brand new city,
Hey taxi man stop, hey taxi man stop.
Give me a lift in your shiny new car,
I've got blisters on my feet and my soul has travelled too far,
It would be something good,
It would be something good.

For the highway is long,
And incidents of joy are far apart,
Chasing my dream,
And the lowdown is that it is very hard work,
Hard work, every day,
Hard work, every day,

If I left my heart in the middle of the street,
Would the loss of my burden make life complete,
I'd stand a chance, I'd stand a chance.
I'd fill up the vaccum with crazy joy,
Play with my soul, like a brand new toy,

I’d find my place, I’d find my place.

For the highway is long,
And incidents of joy are far apart,
Chasing my dream,
And the lowdown is that it is very hard work,
Hard work, every day,
Hard work, every day,
